His friend casually told him he can always just back out, but this friend of his is a bit of a mess who hops in and out of relationships, not someone whose relationship advice I'd take. He said he is scared of making the wrong decision and that it's more complicated than he thought it would be. He said he wants to spend more time with his other bf and his bf’s family (who are more local), but that he would meet my family too. The other day I came in from running errands in the middle of the day and overheard the tail end of a FaceTime conversation he was having with an old fuck buddy of his that he is having second thoughts about moving in with me, that he worries he’s only with me because I take such good care of him and that our relationship is more of a habit but he’s afraid to hurt my feelings. I have been feeling very secure in our relationship and excited for the future. He only sees the other guy one or two nights every week or two, even though he is free to see him a lot more often if he wants to. We both work from home half the week so we are together constantly. We are as close as we’ve ever been and nothing much seems to have changed we’re very affectionate, the sex is hot, we don’t seem to get tired of each other’s company at all. We have plans this year to have him meet my family who live on the other side of the country. He accepted my commitment ring and we spent all the holidays together. But my bf ultimately decided that he wants to be with me and he said that our relationship is priority, that I am his primary partner, and that the other guy is secondary in a parallel poly situation. It has worried me and for awhile it seemed like my bf was going to choose this guy over me. About a year and a half ago, he started dating a guy casually, and they have become close since they have some common interests (D&D, boy scouts, pop culture references, etc). We’ve had several really fun encounters with other guys together. With him being so much younger and this being his first real relationship, I’ve wanted him to have the freedom to explore other experiences and relationships. And I love learning about things he enjoys, he even got me into gaming. I love cooking for him and taking him on day trips and showing him new experiences and how to adult. There isn’t a lot of drama in our relationship, we talk through our problems and it’s just been so nice. I can tell he loves being near me all the time and appreciates me and I never feel he is taking advantage of me or anything like that. We’ve always spent most of our week together and since Christmas, he has basically been living with me and hasn’t even gone back to his apartment since then. He's helped be more selfless, he lifted me out of a very lonesome period of my life, and I tell him every day how lucky I am to have him in my life. I know that I have changed his life for the better, and he has changed mine for the better too. But he still struggles with other compulsive habits and thought processes, and I try to help him deal with those too. I helped him quit drinking for a year and he is now able to drink moderately and responsibly, and I’m so proud of him for that. He is a lot younger than I am and has had problems with compulsive behaviors, drinking in particular. Things have seemed great, he’s seemed excited and in fact, he was the one who brought up living together in the first place (though in the past we had mentioned the possibility). I have been with my bf for about 2.5 years and we are about to move in together.
